If a passenger is traveling with an infant or toddler that he/she must know the proper use of a child restraint seat to ensure full safety of the child on aircraft. For this reason, the airline and the FAA highly recommend using appropriate CRS when traveling by air for young children who weigh 40 pounds or less.

Flying with a lap child on a domestic flight

A child ages between 14 days old to 2 years can travel on an adult's (12 years of age or older) lap free of cost.
A boarding pass for an infant is not required, but a Boarding Verification Document is a must travel on the flight.

Flying with the infant in an FAA-approved child safety seat

If a passenger is using a child safety seat for the infant, then he/she is required to purchase a ticket. Infant fares are available.
A boarding pass is required for the infant.

Flying with an infant on an international flight
